The freshmen weekend is almost full! For everyone who is not able join the freshmen weekend (anymore), we organized a freshmen day on Sunday 19 August. This is the Sunday before the OWee. During this day you will get to know both the study association and your fellow students. Freshmen day is an alternative to the freshmen weekend and a good start for the OWee and the beginning of your student life. To receive more information about the event register via this link.

About the freshmen weekend

Every year, the study association for Applied Mathematics and Computer Science ‘Christiaan Huygens’ organizes a weekend for all new first-year students of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at the beginning of the new academic year. This year the weekend will take place from 9 to 11 August 2019.

During this weekend, which is part of the OWee, you will have plenty of opportunity to get to know your fellow students. Various professors, faculty staff and study advisers will also be present at the weekend, so that you can get acquainted with a number of faces from the faculty.

When you register for the OWee, you can check whether you are joining the freshmen weekend, or whether you only participate in the OWee. It is advisable to all students to participate in both activities. Mentor groups are formed during the weekend, with which you will experience the OWee afterwards. You will also meet your new fellow students during the weekend, which can come in handy later in projects and lectures!

Finally, another important remark: the freshmen year weekend is no hazing! We are not a student association.

The freshmen year weekend takes place from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 August . You will be expected Friday morning at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, Mekelweg 4 in Delft. First there is a program at the faculty itself, after which we take buses to a location somewhere in the Netherlands. On Sunday we will return to Delft by bus, where we arrive around dinner time.

When you register, you will receive an email in advance that states at what time and where your are expected and what you have to take with you. Have you not received this email yet? Check whether the email has not arrived in your spam filter. We keep the exact program of the weekend a secret, but you can be sure that everyone will enjoy it!

Packing list

During the weekend, breakfast (except on Friday morning), lunch and dinner are provided for you, as well as a place to sleep. The location is also fully equipped. We ask you to bring the following items:

  • Sleeping bag, bottom sheet, pillow and pillowcase
  • Sports equipment (shoes, sports shorts, etc.) and swimming equipment
  • Clothes (the WIEWIE ensures a nice warm T-shirt)
  • Toilet equipment
  • A valid identification card
  • As minimum as possible valuable items. You can leave cameras, iPads and the like at home, you can only lose them!
  • Money for drinks at the bar; all meals are included in the weekend
  • We are outside a lot, so do not forget to bring sunscreen
  • An old T-shirt for charity
  • An old cell phone

In addition, the following items are forbidden:

  • Own alcohol or drugs
  • Weapons (yes, you can leave those cool nunchucks at home)
  • Smartphones

Double Bachelor

Are you going to do the double bachelor of Applied Mathematics & Applied Physics next year? Then you are lucky, because you can participate in both freshmen weekends! The weekends are not on the same dates this year, the freshmen weekend of Applied Physics is a week later than that of Applied Mathematics, namely 16 to 18 August. For more information see their website. If you want to register for both weekends, you can do so via the online registration form of the OWee. You have to fill this in twice, once for each weekend, where, if you participate in the OWee as well, you indicate this in only one of the two forms, because otherwise you pay twice for the OWee, which is of course a waste of money!
