Recap information session

Once every three years, the study association for students of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science ‘Christiaan Huygens’ organizes a 3-week study visit to an intercontinental, magnificent destination. This time New Horizons will organize an extraordinary trip to South Korea and Japan for 30 selected top students, mostly studying for their Master’s degree. We will visit various companies, universities and cultural hotspots. Before this amazing journey, there will be a very fun and educational preliminary program. Participants will be selected based on a motivation letter, study performance and extracurricular activities. These documents need to be provided when you enroll for the Study Visit.

Topics of interest:

During the Study Visit there will be three topics of interest, meaning that these topics will be emphasized when visiting universities and companies. The topics of interest are:

  1. Sustainability
  2. Big Data
  3. Privacy

Preliminary program:

The preliminary program will take place in the second semester. This will start on the 11th of February till 10th of July (this is when we will fly from Amsterdam to Tokyo!). During the preliminary program we have approximately one activity every two weeks. Take into account that you will very probably miss some lectures because of the preliminary program. Below a small summary of the different kinds of activities:

  • In-house days: We will visit a company in the morning or afternoon. During this visit the company will show us what they do using presentations, tours and case studies. In-house days are known as fun and educational.
  • Workshops: During workshops companies will have the opportunity to give a small presentation about their work and projects, together with an activity or a short case study.
  • Lectures: Lectures will be given by companies at EEMCS with a drink afterwards in the /Pub. A very nice way to meet a company in both a formal and informal way.
